My paintings are primarily of buildings, big and small. I photograph places with connections to my life and that of neighborhoods and towns. I take the photos, and use them as reference in my oil paintings; sketching with my brush and slowly building color and details. The finish look is realistic.
My work revolves around the idea of memories, new and old. Finding places where I have had my own memories or where others have. Sometimes they are grand famous buildings, and sometimes tiny humble storefronts. In every case, I seek to find places that connect to someone's soul, bring them comfort.
Something that I often find surprising and amusing when talking with people about my work is the connections that I have with others. In talking about places they see in my work, I have found people I went to school with or worked with, or just hung out in the same places. Shared memories are fun.
